  • Fall 2017 Makeup Trends-The Glossy Lip

My 14-yr old self is jumping for joy! Gloss is back, my friends! After many seasons of a solid matte lip, this season’s saying is “The juicier the better!” Now, don’t get me wrong, I love a good matte lip. The matte lovelies have not gone completely extinct. They are taking a more subtle, subdued form this season. Matte nudes and peaches are going to be very popular as they warm up the lips that peak out of our big, cozy sweaters.

I’m not always a huge fan of makeup “trends.” I prefer to wear colors and formulas that I know will complement my skin. This is particularly true when it comes to lip colors. It is common to see a Fall makeup look complete with a rich, mahogany lip. The deep, deep berry tones have been quite popular in the last few years and continue to make an appearance this Autumn. I find that these colors don’t suit me that well so I usually stick to a lighter version. A lighter berry tone is very on trend at the moment. Something like NARS Velvet Lip Glide in “Bound”(pictured below) is perfect for that cool, berry wash of color. It’s an interesting formula because it is a glossy matte (if that makes sense.) It is super creamy and hydrates the lips beautifully for a semi-matte lip color. It retails for $26.00 USD on Sephora.com.

Another one of my favorites for Fall (or any time of year) is Tanya Burr Cosmetics lipstick in the shade “Pink Cocoa.” Tanya was one of the very first beauty Youtubers I watched when beauty gurus were just becoming “a thing.” Her videos have helped me through some very difficult times in my life so I just love supporting her brand in any way I can. Her lipsticks are so lush (and so affordable!) She’s based in London so you have to shop online if you’re not in the UK. I purchase her products from feelunique.com as they ship to both the U.S. and Australia and are ALWAYS having a sale! I love “Pink Cocoa” because it’s this perfect pink, brown nude that would be flattering on any skintone. It pulls a bit of peach on me which is, also, very on trend this season. It retails for $8.95 USD. What a steal!

My next pick for fall is Laura Mercier’s Creme Smooth Lip Color in “Spiced Rose.” This glossy lipstick doesn’t fall into the berry trend of this season but is a gorgeous brown, spicy, mauve/rose color. I love this lipstick when paired with a dewy, champagne eye and bronzed, dewy cheeks and full brows. It also looks gorgeous with a rosy cheek. I prefer lipsticks with a glossy finish to lip glosses because I find that they last longer and have a stronger color payoff. It retails on lauramercier.com for $28.00 USD.

Lastly, a classic. Bobbi Brown Lip Color in “Sandwash Pink” is one of those staple colors that should be in every woman’s lip wardrobe! It is a mauve/rose/slight berry shade that is universally flattering. There are reports that it was Kate Middleton’s lipstick of choice on her wedding day : ) (now you know why I love it so much!) It has a semi-matte/natural finish and is extremely creamy an long lasting. It is a perfect pick for Autumn to pair with a bronzed eye and matte rose cheek. It’s extremely versatile and will transition beautifully into the winter months when paired with a Holiday smokey eye and even see you through into Spring. If you’re on the market for a new lippie, this is a classic, super wearable option. It retails on Sephora.com for $29.00 USD.
