  • 5 Tips For Growing Out Your Hair (faster than you can say “balayage!”)

(photo by the gorgeous Kaylee Ditchfield from KAWSA on Belmore)

Perhaps you were having a “moment” in life and needed to feel adventurous and daring. You hadn’t saved up for a trip to Thailand and skydiving just seemed a bit extra, so you decided to do the chop! I’m right there with you. This was Carrie circa November 2017.

Experimenting with new hairstyles is such a fabulous way to bring about a bit of change in life. But, all good things must come to an end, and eventually, you were left seriously missing your locks. Not to worry! I’ve got you covered. Here are my 5 tips to help you go from lob to long in no time!

    1.Take a Hair Growth Supplement

I 150% believe in supplements for healthy hair. Now, of course, check with your doctor before incorporating any new supplement into your routine. Choosing a supplement can be confusing (there are so many out there these days) so perhaps do a bit of research to find a supplement with great reviews. Ideally, you’ll want it to include biotin, folic acid, B vitamins and extra goodies such as grape seed and copper and manganese. It usually takes at least one bottle to start seeing results (although I swear I started seeing results after just a few weeks!)

    2. Castor and Coconut Oil Mask

Who would’ve thought that simple oils such as these could yield such incredible results?! Castor oil is fantastic at assisting with hair growth. It can be a bit thick which is why I suggest mixing it using equal parts castor oil to coconut oil and massage into scalp. Leave on for a minimum of 2 hours but ideally, 5+ hours is best. Want an extra dose of fabulous? Apply a bit to your brows and lash line before bed and give Cara Delevingne a run for her money!

    3. Ditch The Heat

This is one area of your life where it is completely acceptable to ditch the heat! Curling irons and hair dryers reap absolute havoc on our locks. Try letting hair air dry naturally as much as possible. This allows hair the ability to retain it’s moisture and helps keep the ends fresh. I know this may seem a bit unrealistic to some but with the amazing wave sprays and sea salt concoctions on the market today, you’ll look like you just stepped out of an episode of Laguna Beach (were you team LC or team Kristin?) LC all the way. She is the queen of beach waves, btw.

    4. Wash Less Frequently

Again, this could be tough for some. Gone are the days of me washing my hair every single night. Up until about 4 years ago, I had to wash my hair every single day in order to feel squeaky clean. And then, I visited Paris…capital of the dry shampoo. It was in the infamous City Pharma in Saint-Germain that I discovered Klorane’s dry shampoo with oat milk. Life. Changed. I’m not even kidding. A few sprays and a glass of champagne later, I was completely hooked. My messy bun has never looked better! Go as long (without looking greasy) as you possibly can in between washes. Your locks will thank me (and so will your wallet! Oh, that’s my shampoo and conditioner receipt? I thought it was my rent check.)

    5. Don’t brush hair while it is wet

Our hair follicles are open to the world and at their most vulnerable when our hair is wet. Be kind to those little loves and do not pull a brush through them trying to get out the knots. Apply a light hair oil and gently run your fingers through wet hair. Less breakage=longer hair=mermaid in the making.

Alright my friends, there you have it! Hopefully, these tips will help you through that awkward time of being in between hair lengths. Stick with these methods for at least a few months and I guarantee your hair will be blowing in the wind in no time!

I definitely wash less frequently and notice the difference. I have always wanted to try hair and skin supplements – i might give them a try this year!
