Bobbi Brown’s branding is truly the epitome of chic. Everything from the packaging to the colors, her products are always incredibly flattering and incredibly wearable. I think one (of the millions) of reasons that her brand is so successful is because she created products that were intended for the everyday woman (and man.) You don’t often see bright blues and electric purples in her products. The colors are neutral and truly suitable for any age or occasion. Basically, she’s a genius.
Though Bobbi is no longer with the brand, the new releases continue to uphold that chic, high quality that Bobbi always insisted upon. These palettes are no exception!
Bobbi’s team kindly sent over two palettes for me to experience, Night Smoke and Midnight Orchid. The shadows are houses in a chic, magnetic packaging which is incredibly satisfying to use. There are five shades in each palette that compliment each other incredibly well. Can I get a “hallelujah” for including a matte highlight shade to use under the brow?! I don’t always love using a shimmer shade under the brow (particularly if I’m going for a more professional look) and I love that we’re given a decent amount of matte highlight shade.
The Night Smoke palette is the perfect example of a “day to night” palette. The shades could easily see you through from class to cocktails. The darkest shades, Galactic and Smoldering, aren’t overly intense and can easily be dialled down or smoked out. The formulas are silky and blend seamlessly. I love the pigment in Bobbi’s shadows because they aren’t overly pigmented to the point where they’re difficult to use. The formulas are kind of fool proof in that way and are simple enough for even the most amateur of artists to use.
Midnight Orchid is a particularly gorgeous palette for any of my fellow brown eyed gals or guys. I’m not usually one for purples but this palette is a game changer. The purple shade named fittingly “Midnight Orchid” is more of an amethyst gem tone and is really lovely. Again, I love that we’re given both shimmer and matte shades. The shade in the top right, “Into the Night,” is beautiful when worn alone. The rich chocolate tones in the bottom right shade, “Smokey Brown,” would be perfect for a bit of drama in the crease or used as a liner.
Overall, I think this is a fantastic launch from Bobbi. It’s as if the brand is taking it back to basics and I love that. We don’t always need a palette with 15 different shades. These are very concise and carefully curated palettes that the everyday woman or man can grab in the morning and have an eye look done in 3 minutes. The palettes are also perfect for travel as they’re durable and lightweight. Another win from Bobbi Brown!
Let me know in the comments below if you’ve tried one of these palettes and what you think of the simplistic approach that the brand has taken.
