Instagram is the fastest growing social media platform on the internet. It launched in 2010 and has exploded in the world of social media. Brands, bloggers and everyday individuals turn to this platform to share photos of their everyday life events. It was named “Instagram” with the intent that its users would instantly share whatever exciting thing, event or decadent dessert was happening in front of them. If you have an account on Instagram you’ve probably noticed that most of the photos on feeds don’t look as if they were just causally taken without color scheme, light and depth in mind. Even some of my friends that have 15-20 followers and a private page still take a moment to create that perfect shot of their latte or beach scene!

Aimee Song has created an “Instagram guidebook” as I like to call it. “Capture Your Style” is a guide on how to find your “vibe” or “theme” on Instagram and create a feed that is inspiring and true to your style. She takes you through the steps of creating “the perfect shot” and teaches you how to begin taking your very best photos.

What I found very helpful were her tips on editing photos. She teaches you how to use some of the popular editing apps like VSCO, Snapseed and Facetune and talks about the importance of keeping a theme to your feed. Some of her advice regarding the theme I took with a grain of salt as they didn’t match my personal preference but I think that it could be very helpful to someone just starting out on Instagram.

Whether you have a personal account or are trying to grow a business, I would definitely recommend this book if you are interested in taking better photos. I wouldn’t limit the intended audience of this book to only Instagram users as I think any budding photographer would find it useful. It was an easy read (finished in 2 days) and her gorgeous Instagram photos fill the pages of this book. It doesn’t hurt that it looks fantastic on a coffee table as well. Oh! Let me put my monogrammed mug next to it and shoot that!

Have you read her book? What are your thoughts?

Cheers, lovely! Do something wonderful for yourself today!

    Love, Carrie xo
