  • A Sunny Saturday in the Royal Botanical Gardens

It was a perfect Spring day in Melbourne. You know, the kind where the sun is shining and it’s JUST warm enough that you don’t need a jacket. We just had one of the coldest winters on Melbourne record so yesterday was a very much welcomed relief.

I thought it would be the perfect day to get outside and enjoy a bit of nature’s finest. I’d never been to the Royal Botanical Gardens so we thought we’d make a day of it!

Not everything was in bloom but there was still so much color! We hiked up a hill to see the rose garden and after a bit of huffing and puffing realized that none were in bloom.

But we saw a few beautiful things along the way!

We came across this gorgeous area called “Fern Gully” and I literally felt like I was back on the Disney Cruise ship, trekking through exotic rainforests and greenery. It was so quiet and peaceful.

After a bit of exploring, it was time for Jay to head off and “run the Tan.” It’s basically the thing to do in Melbourne if you are a runner…which I am not.

So, instead, I went off to The Terrace to enjoy a bit of afternoon Devonshire tea complete with scones with jam and cream and a bit of people (and puppy) watching.

Just as I was savoring my last bit of scone, Jay arrived back from his run and it was time for lunch! We shared a baguette sandwich and, of course, topped it off with a glass of bubbles and a beer for Jay. Now this is a how weekends should be spent : )

It was time for a bit more exploring! We headed towards the direction of a “volcano” that we wanted to see. Needless to say, the volcano was nothing but a large, swampy area of water that kind of looked like the home of some very suspicious creatures. I didn’t take any photos, haha.

But don’t worry! We found some cacti along the way…and who doesn’t love a good cactus selfie!?

We truly had the most beautiful day. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut on weekends. You find yourself doing the same things, going through the motions and before you know it, your Monday morning coffee is already cold! Live in the moment, make the most of today, explore more and always say “yes” to adventure. You never know what beauty you might find along the way!
