It’s mid February and the heart shaped boxes of chocolates are on the shelves. I can’t believe it’s nearly Valentine’s Day! 2019 is already flying!
In regards to Valentine’s Day, I feel as if there are two kinds of people. Those that embrace St Valentine and all that entails and those that despise the so called “Hallmark Holiday.”
Whether you love or loathe Valentine’s Day, I think that any day is a perfect day to show yourself a bit of love and perhaps spoil yourself with a bit of chocolate (or champagne…or both!) In my mind, the V Day is just another day to show love to yourself and those around you that you love. Even when I was single, I was never one of those “anti Valentine’s Day’ gals that hated the holiday and would pout because I didn’t have anyone special in my life. I embraced it, threw on some comfy clothes, opened a bottle of champagne and watched a chick flick.
Whether you’ll be spending the day with your loved one or, here are my tips on how to be your own Valentine this year and remind yourself of what an adorable goddess you are.
The Treats
As if you needed an excuse to buy yourself a box of chocolates : ) There couldn’t be a more perfect time to indulge in your favorite chocolates or bottle of champagne. Want to be extra fancy? Pick up all of the ingredients needed to bake yourself the most delicious chocolate chunk cookies. This will give you something fun to look forward to at the end of the day and will seriously satisfy your sweet tooth!
The Mindset
Try your hardest to avoid negativity on Valentine’s Day. We all know that it is a commercialized holiday more than likely created by card companies but that doesn’t mean that you have to hate it! Embrace the lightheartedness of the day and don’t take it too seriously. Don’t worry about buying the perfect gift for your partner (or yourself!) Save those gift ideas for Christmas and birthdays. Today is all about fun and a bit of self care. So basically, it’s just like any other day. Enjoy it!
The Outfit
Today is the day to pull out your best and most fabulous outfit! It doesn’t matter if you’re going to work, staying at home by yourself or spending the day with your loved one. Wear something that makes you feel absolutely gorgeous (and it certainly doesn’t have to be red or pink!)
The Meal
One of my favorite memories of Valentine’s Day is the one in which my husband and I ordered a heart shaped pizza from Pizza Hut. It was probably one of the blandest most unflavorful pizzas I’ve ever eaten (lol) but it was a bit of lighthearted fun. We opened that box and had a really good laugh.
Treat yourself to one of your favorite meals! It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. In fact, the simpler the better (less clean up!) Don’t feel like cooking? Order in from one of your favorite restaurants! Unless you’re feeling extra adventurous, I wouldn’t recommend going out to eat on Valentine’s Day. The restaurants can be so overcrowded and overpriced. It’s completely unnecessary. Uber Eats is your best friend today!
The truth
Ok, real talk. Yes, these are all fun, somewhat fluffy ideas on how to “be your own valentine” and have a fabulous day.
But in reality? It’s just another day, my beautiful friend.
You don’t need any of this to continue living your fabulous, adventurous and beautiful life. Holidays can be the most wonderful time for some but not for everyone. My best advice? Treat yourself every single day. Live every day as if it were a special day. If you have a loved one, tell them how much you love them. If you don’t have a partner, call a friend or family member and tell them how much you love them.
Just remember that you don’t need another human to tell you that you are amazing.
And beautiful.
And smart.
And worthy.
You have all of that information inside that beautiful soul of yours. Sometimes, it just takes a bit of digging around to find it.
Happy Valentine’s Day, happy every day and happy life! Now, go treat yourself to a box of chocolates. You deserve it!
You are more than enough!
Love and light, Carrie xo
