  • Tips to Make Your Early Morning Beauty Routine a Breeze

I’ll admit, I am not a morning person. That doesn’t mean that I don’t love the mornings, because I do! I just find it very difficult to function in the wee hours of the day. Sound familiar?

Many jobs require an early morning start and better yet, require one to be coherent and sparkly at stupid o’ clock in the morning. How on Earth is one meant to look bright eyed and bubbly when one just wants to crawl back under the covers? The idea of making breakfast let alone applying mascara sounds nearly impossible at this time of day. But don’t you fret, I’ve got you covered. Here are just a few of my beauty tips that will have you looking perky, polished and poised at any hour of the day!

    Be Prepared

I can’t stress enough the importance of preparation for your morning routine. We usually have our clothes picked out for the next day so why not choose our beauty products? Choose your foundation , eyeliner , concealer , etc and place them in a makeup bag. This works particularly well if you have a larger collection that may be stored in acrylic boxes or Alex drawers.  Having 20 choices of foundation at 5am is a recipe for disaster. Prepare and your early morning primping will be a breeze!

    Multi Use Products

This is one of my favorites! I LOVE a good multi use product. One that immediately comes to mind is the Nars Multiple . I have a handful of these beauties and they are truly lifesavers when it comes to early mornings or travelling. A multi use product that can be used on cheeks, eyes and lips is so useful and extra economical. One of my favorite multi tasking tips that I do nearly everyday is using bronzer as an eyeshadow. Try it. Your mind will be blown.

A few other favorites are the Charlotte Tilbury Beach Sticks and the Bobbi Brown Cream Blush. You’d actually be surprised at how lovely a bit of blush looks on the temples and eyes. Multi tasking at its finest!

    Don’t Forget Your Skincare

Early wake up calls can cause us to cut corners. Skincare is NOT one of those corners that should be cut. You will be amazed at how much less makeup you’ll need when your skin is looking hydrated and balanced. Tailor your morning skincare to suit your skin’s needs. For instance, I wake up very, um, glowy (oily) in the mornings so I need to make sure that I cleanse, tone and then put a bit of moisture back into my skin so I don’t get dehydrated. You may wake up dry as a desert in which case, maybe just splashing your face with water and applying moisturizer is your jam. Also, don’t skimp on the SPF! Try a product like the It Cosmetics CC Cream to give you ultra sun protection and a gorgeous finish.

    Keep It Cool

One of my favorite little morning tips is to keep skincare in the fridge for an ultra soothing morning experience. Try putting a spray toner like Sukin’s Hydrating Mist Toner or Kora Organics Mist Toner in the fridge and spritz to gently wake up the skin. Toss your favorite eye cream in the fridge for mega depuffing action or get extra bougie and use under eye patches like these beauties from Skyn Iceland. I did this on my wedding day and it was a savior!

    Keep it Light

One thing that I tend to accidentally do in the mornings is have a heavy hand. There are 2 times that this usually happens, early mornings and important events. For some reason, I always tend to go in heavy handed in the mornings because I’m in a rush and want to make sure that my makeup lasts all day. There is nothing worse than rolling up to a 9am meeting with cake face! My advice? Use your fingers as much as possible. I know this may be an unpopular opinion, but in my experience, I feel much more in control of my coverage when using my fingers. I SWEAR by my Beautyblender but sometimes, it makes things so flawless and full coverage that you can’t see my skin. It looks like a veil. A hydrated canvas and small amounts of foundation can go a long way.

Need more coverage? Spot conceal with your favorite concealer. Two of my favorites are Tarte Shape Tape (this stuff is gold) and Bobbi Brown’s concealer . Leave the cheeks glowy and powder where you tend to get oily.

I hope these tips will help your mornings be a bit less chaotic and a bit more calm. Beauty doesn’t always have to be quick and rushed. We can still create a beautiful, simple and relaxed look in less than 10 minutes. If you absolutely have no time in the morning (perhaps you hit snooze too many times) then take your prepared makeup bag with you in the car. Do NOT do your makeup while driving but perhaps do it once you’ve arrived at your destination. Don’t stress, you actually get the best makeup lighting in the car!
